A native of Herkimer, New York, Ruth Wolff was a watercolorist who lived most of her life around Montclair and Verona, New Jersey. She graduated from Rochester Athenaeum of Fine and Applied Art and won recognition for watercolors including New York skyline scenes. She was also a student of Charles Charman and Anna Scott. In 1939 was founder and first president of the Verona-West Essex Art Association. In 1957 she was president of the New Jersey Watercolor Society. Her work also included oils, casein and tempera and her interests encompassed a wide spectrum of artistic expression. She was widely exhibitied and her works have appeared in the Newark Museum, Montclair Museum, Riverside Museum in New York, the Trenton State Museum, the National Academy and American Watercolor Society. Her husband, Ralph B Wolff, was a craftsman of considrable talent. He took up painting late in life and worked in oil and watercolor. Several of his images are included in the gallery. | ||
